What the research actually shows
The Cairo trial computer-randomly selected 60 of 725 public primary schools and assigned 30 per group. Pupils washed with soap for about 45 seconds at least twice daily, and school nurses used rapid antigen tests on pupils with influenza-like illness. CDC funded the work. Teams, schools, and parents were unblinded, and the paper acknowledged information bias in illness absence and differential testing among absent pupils. These are two avoidable limitations.
Why this is classified as C (56)
One publicly funded cluster trial directly tested the narrow intervention and outcome and found a large reduction, but unblinded absence classification and differential testing create two limitations. Other trials were not directly comparable, giving C with 56 points.
