Okra-inulin IQP-AE-103,
does it really help with Twelve-week weight loss during a hypocaloric diet?
research showsThe grade is C with 50 points. Among 101 analyzed participants from 108 randomized, 12-week weight loss was 5.03±2.50 kg with high-dose IQP-AE-103 versus 0.98±2.06 kg with placebo, a 4.05-kg difference, P<0.001, and standardized difference about 1.75. Evidence is one small manufacturer-funded trial with no reported implementation method for allocation concealment.
ads claimThe high dose added 1,980 mg dehydrated okra powder and 510 mg inulin daily to a hypocaloric diet. This cannot be converted into evidence for okra water, okra alone, or inulin alone.
Useful facts when choosing a product
- The high dose used two capsules after each main meal, supplying 1,980 mg okra powder and 510 mg inulin daily.
- Every group followed a diet about 500 kcal below individual energy requirements.
- The 2022 microbiota paper shares the 2019 weight trial's registration number and is a secondary analysis of the same trial.
What the research actually shows
A German center randomized 108 adults equally among three groups. Seven left before dosing, leaving 101 in the full analysis set, 35/35/31. An independent statistician generated the randomization code, but the paper did not report how concealment was implemented through numbered containers or central assignment. The trial was smaller than 200 and fully funded by product-rights holder InQpharm Europe. Peng et al. 2022 analyzed microbiota from high-dose and placebo participants under the same NCT03058367; it is a secondary report of the same trial, not an independent study.
Why this is classified as C (50)
The registered weight endpoint showed a large difference, but one fully manufacturer-funded 108-person trial with unreported concealment implementation gives C with 50 points.
Counterpoint. Long-term maintenance, obesity-related events, and other products need separate evidence.
Rejudgment record. Cross-check applied — Cross-checked the 2019 article, NCT03058367, and 2022 microbiota report for the primary endpoint, 108 randomized and 101 analyzed, shared registration, funding, and allocation reporting
| Endpoint | S | Surrogate marker - laboratory or imaging measures |
| Replication | R1 | Single confirmatory trial |
| Independence | I0 | Evidence comes only from manufacturer studies |
| Effect size | E+ | Meets the clinically important threshold |
The scoring table and the verdict agree (C).
Sub-claim grades by effect
This ingredient is marketed for several effects. A single overall grade blends strong and weak claims together, so each effect is graded separately here. The overall grade reflects the strongest disconfirming or core claim.
| Effect (sub-claim) | Grade | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| IQP-AE-103 increases 12-week weight loss during a hypocaloric diet | C | The high-dose versus placebo difference was 4.05 kg. |
| Okra alone produces the same weight loss | ? | The trial combined okra with inulin and a hypocaloric diet. |
